Nearly all of the high volume web sites on the net today like CNN, Time, Amazon, etc., are based on content management systems (CMS). These web sites create pages dynamically with articles or products the viewer requests. Key to effectiveness of these dynamic web sites is that the design of the site is separate from the content of the site. By contrast, static sites commingle design and content. Separating the content from the design has benefits and disadvantages. For example,

Dynamic web site advantages:

  • No need to be a designer to add content (pages, articles, stories, images, videos, etc.)
  • Site design completely separate from site content. It is possible to change the look and feel of a site without affecting the content at all
  • Content can be added from any web browser; no web design software or FTPing is necessary
  • Many content management software packages are available free of charge under an open source licensing arrangement. Web sites created with CMSs such as Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress and others number in the multi-millions and are safe and secure

Dynamic web site disadvantages:

  • Slower to load pages since they are created on the fly and require computer processing power to do it
  • Not as much creative freedom in designing the site since the content must fit in pre-defined areas of a template

We can help you take advantage of this Web 2.0 technology. In 10 minutes we can set up a web site using a pre-existing template and in 10 more minutes teach you (over the phone) to edit your website! Of course, this would be just a demo site. Creating a branded site will require some design work and setting up a site architecture is not something we can do in 10 minutes. But once the site is set up, maintaining it is easy.
